I used 2 Android phones and connect them to different networks (4G, 3G and 2G) to see if our premise was true.

After many repeated tests (2 minute calls), this is often the usual consumption of the calls that I made according to the network I was connected to:

2G NETWORK:

Data consumption in two minutes call: 400 KB

3G NETWORK:

Data consumption in two minutes call: 600 KB

4G NETWORK:

Data consumption in two minutes. Call: 1 MB

The first problem I noticed is that data usage depends on the worst connection between both sides of the communication.

If one of the users is on a 4G network and the other is on an edge network, the consumption and the quality of the call are the same as if both users were connected to a 4G network or were connected to edge network.I also checked that for the 2 minute calls, we need to reduce the consumption of data that is made while the connection is being established.

What we could pay if the other side didn't call us. Since I was able to check the data consumption of the call setup when it is between 10 and 20 KB (almost negligible).

CONCLUSION

Finally, before I determine the consumption per minute, I also have to consider how talkative both users are to the call.

I could see a silent call using up to 25 less data than a call without stopping to speak. It is believed that no one will call not to speak.

The data consumption of at least one of the telephones connected to the 2G network is approximately 200 KB.

Always according to the level of reporting and the rhythm of the conversation. If at least the 2 phones are connected to 3G, the average consumption per minute is 300 KB.If both users are connected to 4G, the consumption per minute will not be less than 500 KB.
